Farm field trips introduce students to the importance of agriculture in our world. At Southern Belle Farm, we make this learning experience fun for students and teachers – in a 330-acre outdoor classroom, with farm equipment, crops, animals and more!

Farm field trips introduce students to the importance of agriculture in our world.

DIG IN THE DIRT TOUR

“Dig In The Dirt Tour” field trips are hosted by reservation only from 8:30am-1pm on the following dates:

  • March 17-20, 2020
  • March 24-27, 2020

Admission Fees:
Students, chaperones and visitors $10 each. Teachers and aides are free with school ID. Additional parents or guest $10 each. A minimum of 20 reservations are required to book. We require a non-refundable deposit of $75 to confirm your reservation.

The Dig In the Dirt Tour will be a unique field trip experience for grades 3-5. The tour will teach students about the importance of soil to farmers, plants and our world. The activities will meet GA Common Core standards. Students will learn about soil through hands on and sensory activities. The experience will include activities involving:

  • Soil Sample Collection
  • Water Absorption and Mineral Experiment
  • Composting
  • Soil Differences and Planting

Students can also experience our:

  • Hayride
  • Jumping Pillow
  • Animal Barn

Have a picnic on the farm!   Field trip groups are welcome to bring a sack lunch to enjoy at picnic tables under our covered pavilions. Handwashing stations and restroom facilities are available.

SPRING FIELD TRIPS

Spring farm field trips are hosted by reservation only, April through May, on weekdays Tuesday-Friday.

Admission Fees:
Students, chaperones and visitors  $10 each.  Teachers and aides are free with school ID. A minimum of 20 reservations are required to book. We require a non-refundable deposit of $75 to confirm your reservation.

When students arrive at the farm for a Spring field trip, they will have an opportunity to rotate between these farm learning activities:

  • Learning about strawberries
  • Visiting the Strawberry Patch to pick a container of strawberries for eating or to take home!
  • If students are visiting BEFORE strawberries are ripe, a seeding demonstration will teach visitors how plants grow from a seed using the air, light, soil, and water. They will plant a seed in a container to take home and watch the progress!
  • Watching a honeybees exhibit on pollination and learning their importance in growing crops
  • Milking demonstration in the dairy barn
  • Taking a hayride tour of the farm
  • Visiting Belle’s Barn to meet our farm animals
  • Self-directed composting/worm activity

Have a picnic on the farm!   Field trip groups are welcome to bring a sack lunch to enjoy at picnic tables under our covered pavilions. Handwashing stations and restroom facilities are available.

SUMMER FIELD TRIPS

Summer farm field trips are hosted by reservation only for a limited time in early June.

Admission Fees:
Students, chaperones and visitors $10 each. Teachers and aides are free with school ID. A minimum of 20 reservations are required to book. We require a non-refundable deposit of $75 to confirm your reservation.

MORE DETAILS

When students arrive at the farm for a Summer field trip, they will have an opportunity to rotate between these farm learning activities:

  • Learning about blackberries or blueberries, depending on availability
  • Visiting the Berry Patch to pick a container of berries for eating or to take home!
  • Milking demonstration in the dairy barn
  • Honeybee Demonstration
  • Taking a hayride tour of the farm
  • Visiting Belle’s Barn to meet our farm animals
  • Fun on the jumping pillow

Have a picnic on the farm! Field trip groups are welcome to bring a sack lunch. Picnic tables are available under our covered pavilions. There are restroom and hand washing facilities available.

FALL FIELD TRIPS

Fall farm field trips are hosted by reservation only on weekdays, Tuesdays thru Fridays.

Admission Fees:
Students, chaperones and visitors $10 each. Teachers and aides are free with school ID. A minimum of 20 reservations are required to book. We require a non-refundable deposit of $75 to confirm your reservation.

MORE DETAILS

When students arrive at the farm for a Fall field trip, they will have an opportunity to rotate between these farm learning activities:

  • Milking demonstration in the dairy barn
  • Choosing a pumpkin from the field
  • Exploring a cornfield mini-maze
  • Taking a hayride tour of the farm
  • Visiting Belle’s Barn to meet our farm animals

Students may take home a baby pumpkin. Other seasonal treats may include such things as ice cream in a cup.
